Admissiontipz

Having noticed that most admission seekers doesn't understand the new admission processing system called CAPS ( Central Admissions Processing Systems ), so I decided to break it down to your understanding.  I hope you will understand better.

Step-by-Step Admissions Process on the Central
Admissions Processing Systems (CAPS)

1.The university would login into their respective caps platform.

2.choose their general cut off mark which was earlier advertised eg AAU -160.

3.Determine the percentage weight for jamb eg 50% or 60%.

4.Determine the percentage weight from the score obtained from the screening exercise eg 40% for school whose jamb percentage is 60% ( take both 100%).

5.Caps would calculate an aggregate/composite score based on the percentage the school gave to both utme & screening.

6.schools would then input departmental cut off mark
School might decide to put different cut off based on certain criteria
Eg.using medicine. Merit- 70
Catchment- 68
Educationaly less developed state-65

7.student from his/her department would be ranked based on the aggregate score by CAPS.

8.A proposed admission list would be sent to the school for those who met the cut off for various department.

9.The school would review the list.
And decide If they are to remove some persons( but reasons for removing such persons must be stated).

10.after the proposed admission list sent by jamb to the school have been approved by the school. They send the list Back to jamb.

11. Jamb would inform candidate to either accept or reject admission given to them by the school.

12.If they accept. They are admitted.

13.if they reject they would be taken to a “market place” where other university can consider them for admission.

14.candidates have 3days to accept or reject admission.

15.once you accept ur admission.you cannot reject again

JAMB (Joint Admission Matriculation Board)

AdmissionTipz

This is the commonest system of gaining admission into the higher institution. JAMB is a body that controls admission activities in Nigeria, if you want to use JAMB to gain admission into the higher institution,  then you should be ready to sit for exam called UME (Unified Matriculation Examination). This exam will be based on four subject related to your choice of course.  For example,  if you want to study Medicine and surgery,  then you should know that the subjects you must prepare for, are English Language, Biology, Physics and Chemistry,  if you want to know the subject combination for your course,  then you need to check the JAMB brochure. Also,  you should note that the exam is taken with Computer being referred to CBT ( Computer Based Test).More importantly,  you should know that each subject aside English language has 50 questions while English language has 100 questions. The result of the exam is release at least after three day of the exam. The overall score is 400, which means 100 marks each in the four subject. You should also know that it is your UME score that qualifies you for the application of POST UME ( the university exam you will have to sit for,  before gaining admission into the institution).

Merits and Demerits of JAMB

You all know that everything has its good side and bad side, so as it is for JAMB,  as for the merits;

  • It is very cheap.
  • Easy to apply.
  • Exam is CBT, meaning that it is easier to operate.
  • Results are released at least three days after the exam (UME)

   As for the demerits;

  • It is competitive.
  • Sometimes,  admission might not be genuine.
  • It is only valid for one year,  meaning that irrespective of your score,  you can not use it again.

IJMB (Interim Joint Matriculation Board)

AdmissionTipz

IJMB is a program (A'level) which is being supervised by ABU( Ahmadu Bello University, zaria).  This does not mean that the applicants must choose ABU as their choice of school,  you can get admitted into different universities.  The applicants will receive lecture for nine month and then sit for the exam.  The successful students will now apply for admission into the higher institution via D.E (Direct Entry)  form. You know what this means?  It means you will gain admission to 200level without passing through 100level.  Isn't that interesting? Also you should know that the result does not expire, meaning that you can use it over and over again till you gain admission into the university, unlike JAMB that expires after a year.  You want to know more about IJMB and how to apply?  Then visit their official website here.

Merits and Demerits of IJMB

Like JAMB,  IJMB also has it own advantage and disadvantage,  they are; as for the merits

  • It doesn't expire.
  • You gain admission into 200level in the university.
  • It is just a nine month program.

As for the demerits;

  • It is expensive.
  • It has limited number of universities you can apply to.

It is also the same with IJMB but the difference is just the supervisors.  It is an A'level program that usually last for nine to ten month, after this,  you will sit for an examination.  If successful,  you can use the result to apply with a DE form and also, the result does not expire unlike JAMB that expires after one year.  It also have courses and universities you can pick from because it is not for all courses and universities. If you want to see courses and universities that accept JUPEB,  then visit their official site here.  In the official site,  you will see more information on how to apply if you want to apply.

Merits and Demerits of JUPEB

Like JAMB and IJMB,  JUPEB also have it own merits and demerits, they are,  As for the merits;

  • Its result does not expire.
  • You gain admission into 200level without passing through 100level.
  • It is just a 10 months program.

As for the demerits;

JAMB 2018-Secrets behind every admission success

Alot of students are preparing for the unexpected POST JAMB exam which was said to have been scrapped. The bitter truth is that not all the students will be admitted into the university or polytechnics.

But there are things you need to know that will give you more advantages over other competitors.  Yeah,  they are your competitors even your best friend is.

  For instance,  let me take a particular product as an example like indomie,  you know that indomie also have competitors in which you know that Dangote is part of.  But have you ever thought of how indomie has been on top despite the strong competition,  it is simple, they do more of advertisement, promo and other thing to keep their product relevant.  That is the advantage i am talking about.  I am sorry i deviated a bit but i am sure that it really help you understand what i was saying.

POST OUTLINES

1. Why students do not gain admission.
2. Why students gain admission.

Looking at the two outlines above,  you will notice that they are opposite to each other. You need to know why people gain admission once and others have been trying for the past three years without gaining admission to any higher institutions.  I think i am the right person to discus this topic to you because i have passed through this before,  i mean i have been in a stage of not gaining admission and also in a stage of gaining admission. You see that i am the right person for this article/topic.

WHY PEOPLE DO NOT GAIN ADMISSION

I saw a particular news about a student who got admitted into OAU (Obafemi Awolowo University). According to the news,  this student have been applying for OAU for the past six consecutive years but all to no avail. This news broke out last year when he got admitted at last into OAU,  which mean that he has been applying for OAU since 2010.  Although I applaud him for his persistence but on the other hand, I saw that as a waste of time. If you don't know what a whole six years can do, i will tell you now;

1. Within six years,  you will study Pharmacy and complete your NYSC service (without strikes).
2. Within six years,  you will complete your masters program and also complete your phD program.
3. Within six years,  a baby would have started walking and speaking english fluently.
4. Within six year, a student will finish his Secondary School Education.

Let me stop there, i hope you now see my point. What i am trying to pass across to you is that,  if you are trying a particular method and it is not working,  please and please, you need to try something new.

Another reason is that student don't  get the right information that will aid their admisson success. What kind of information do you think i am talking about,  i am talking information like this one you are reading and other post of this blog. So if you are reading this post,  then definitely you really want to pass your exams and get admitted. As they say, information is power, also if you don't get informed,you will be deformed.

Another possible reason is that students don't  get prepared for the required exams like JAMB and POST UME exam. This exams are what you need for any admission into Nigerian universities apart from other admission program like JUPEB,  IJMB etc. You should take your preparation for this exams very serious by reading your books according to the syllabus provided by JAMB, answering past JAMB questions  and also attending tutorials.  I have posted how to pass both JAMB and POST JAMB on my blog,  you can read them after reading this post/article.

Another possible reason is that students usually do mistakes when applying for the JAMB/POST UME.  What do i mean by mistakes?  Mistakes like spelling your name wrongly,  giving the wrong data(s) about yourself etc.  This mistakes have a way of affecting one's admission.
Another possible reason is that most students are below the age requirement of the school. Most schools need students that are sixteen years old and above, though some schools still admit students below sixteen years old but to be on the safe side,  it is better you are sixteen and above.

WHY STUDENTS GAIN ADMISSION

Yeah,  this one is very important to discuss. Have you ever come to think of it that why did Mr A got admitted despite have average mark in JAMB/ POST UME.  Please i don't want you to think that connection is everything, No, students still gain admission without any connection.

Take notice of those students that got admitted despite having average mark in JAMB,  you will notice that they applied for a lower course which have low competition in the particular university, that is why i will always advise any one that if you put in for medicine and surgery, and you didn't get up to expectation, change your course to a lower one like biochemistry, microbiology etc.  The truth is that you can cross from those course to medicine and surgery later in the future.

Take notice of those students that gain admission,  you will notice that they started their preparation very early.  Imagine someone preparing to write JAMB exam and he/she started reading a week before the exam,  don't let us decieve ourselves,  such person won't pass the exam. Preparing early is the key to pass JAMB.  When i was planning to sit for JAMB exam,i started my preparation three months before the date of the exam.  Now tell the reason why i won't have gotten above 300 in JAMB.
Take notice on students that got admitted,  you will notice that they made no error in their JAMB application and they meet up with the age requirement of the school.

I want to use this medium to advise all students seeking admission into the higher institution,  if you see that JAMB is not going through,  you can try another method like IJMB, JUPEB,  Pre-degree,  Diploma etc.  Though they may  be cost but it is better than wasting your time at home for more than four years.

And for those who are reading this article/post and you are yet preparing for JAMB exam,  i will advise you not to see JAMB as a big thing,  JAMB is simple but the fear people have for JAMB exam has been making them fail to get admitted into the university.

As for those students that say that it is only university they want to attend, despite been admitted by polytechnics,  i will advise you not to reject  polytechnic admission offer,  you can be attending polytechnic and be preparing for the upcoming JAMB exam.

JAMB 2016-How to calculate UNILAG aggregate score

University of Lagos is one the prestigious federal universities we have in Nigeria because over the years, they have produce excellent set of graduates even a graduate with 5.0 CGPA.  As a result of this, UNILAG usually find a way of selecting the best candidate out the crowd by conducting POST UME examination for students.

In this post,  i will explain how UNILAG calculate it aggregate from your JAMB score and POST UME score. If you are reading this post, it is either you are preparing for the POST UME or you are planning on choosing UNILAG as your first choice university, anyways this information is for you. I will also used some illustrations to explain my point if you don't mind.

HOW TO CALCULATE UNILAG AGGREGATE SCORE

Now let us go into the main aim of this topic; how to calculate your aggregate point using your JAMB score and POST UME score.
As for your JAMB score, it will be divided by 8 which will be equals to 50%. You don't understand? See illustration below;
Assuming Mr A had 240 in JAMB, then his aggregate will be;

240/8= 30%

This means that Mr A got 30% out of 50% as his JAMB aggregate.  Now let us go the POST UME.
As the POST UME aggregate,  you know that it is 40 questions that will be set,  then each question carries 1.25 marks. Let me show you  illustration;

Assuming Mr A got 30 marks out of the 40 questions, then it means that;
30 x 1.25= 37.5
This means that Mr A got 37.5 marks out of 50 marks.

Now the total aggregate will be;

JAMB aggregate + POST UME aggregate = Total aggregate

This means that Mr A total aggregate is
30 + 37.5= 67.5%
This means that Mr A have a total of 67.5% mark out of 100%

WHAT NEXT?

The next thing is that you should wait for the cut off mark but while waiting for the cut off mark, read the factors that determines cut-off mark. Also you should pray, because alot of people choose UNILAG as their first choice, this means that you are competing with numerous candidates.
