JAMB 2018-Step-by-step admission process on the CAPS

Admissiontipz

Having noticed that most admission seekers doesn't understand the new admission processing system called CAPS ( Central Admissions Processing Systems ), so I decided to break it down to your understanding.  I hope you will understand better.

Step-by-Step Admissions Process on the Central
Admissions Processing Systems (CAPS)

1.The university would login into their respective caps platform.

2.choose their general cut off mark which was earlier advertised eg AAU -160.

3.Determine the percentage weight for jamb eg 50% or 60%.

4.Determine the percentage weight from the score obtained from the screening exercise eg 40% for school whose jamb percentage is 60% ( take both 100%).

5.Caps would calculate an aggregate/composite score based on the percentage the school gave to both utme & screening.

6.schools would then input departmental cut off mark
School might decide to put different cut off based on certain criteria
Eg.using medicine. Merit- 70
Catchment- 68
Educationaly less developed state-65

7.student from his/her department would be ranked based on the aggregate score by CAPS.

8.A proposed admission list would be sent to the school for those who met the cut off for various department.

9.The school would review the list.
And decide If they are to remove some persons( but reasons for removing such persons must be stated).

10.after the proposed admission list sent by jamb to the school have been approved by the school. They send the list Back to jamb.

11. Jamb would inform candidate to either accept or reject admission given to them by the school.

12.If they accept. They are admitted.

13.if they reject they would be taken to a “market place” where other university can consider them for admission.

14.candidates have 3days to accept or reject admission.

15.once you accept ur admission.you cannot reject again

We all know how hard it is to gain admission into the higher institution in Nigeria. Due to the increasing number of candidates applying for a limited admission slot yearly but nevertheless,  there are different methods of gaining admission into the higher institution. But before we go into that,  i want to use this medium to advise the students that if one method is not working for you,  then you should try another method;  at least one of them will surely work for  you.

3. IJMB ( Interim Joint Matriculation Board)
4. Merit and Demerits of IJMB
5. JUPEB
6. Merits and Demerits of JUPEB.
7. Conclusion.

We are going to be discussing about the outlines above , also if you are reading this, i want to read carefully, if you don't understand something, you can notify me using the comment box below.

JAMB (Joint Admission Matriculation Board)

AdmissionTipz

This is the commonest system of gaining admission into the higher institution. JAMB is a body that controls admission activities in Nigeria, if you want to use JAMB to gain admission into the higher institution,  then you should be ready to sit for exam called UME (Unified Matriculation Examination). This exam will be based on four subject related to your choice of course.  For example,  if you want to study Medicine and surgery,  then you should know that the subjects you must prepare for, are English Language, Biology, Physics and Chemistry,  if you want to know the subject combination for your course,  then you need to check the JAMB brochure. Also,  you should note that the exam is taken with Computer being referred to CBT ( Computer Based Test).More importantly,  you should know that each subject aside English language has 50 questions while English language has 100 questions. The result of the exam is release at least after three day of the exam. The overall score is 400, which means 100 marks each in the four subject. You should also know that it is your UME score that qualifies you for the application of POST UME ( the university exam you will have to sit for,  before gaining admission into the institution).

Merits and Demerits of JAMB

You all know that everything has its good side and bad side, so as it is for JAMB,  as for the merits;

  • It is very cheap.
  • Easy to apply.
  • Exam is CBT, meaning that it is easier to operate.
  • Results are released at least three days after the exam (UME)

   As for the demerits;

  • It is competitive.
  • Sometimes,  admission might not be genuine.
  • It is only valid for one year,  meaning that irrespective of your score,  you can not use it again.

IJMB (Interim Joint Matriculation Board)

AdmissionTipz

IJMB is a program (A'level) which is being supervised by ABU( Ahmadu Bello University, zaria).  This does not mean that the applicants must choose ABU as their choice of school,  you can get admitted into different universities.  The applicants will receive lecture for nine month and then sit for the exam.  The successful students will now apply for admission into the higher institution via D.E (Direct Entry)  form. You know what this means?  It means you will gain admission to 200level without passing through 100level.  Isn't that interesting? Also you should know that the result does not expire, meaning that you can use it over and over again till you gain admission into the university, unlike JAMB that expires after a year.  You want to know more about IJMB and how to apply?  Then visit their official website here.

Merits and Demerits of IJMB

Like JAMB,  IJMB also has it own advantage and disadvantage,  they are; as for the merits

  • It doesn't expire.
  • You gain admission into 200level in the university.
  • It is just a nine month program.

As for the demerits;

  • It is expensive.
  • It has limited number of universities you can apply to.

JUPEB ( Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board)

AdmissionTipz

JUPEB is an examination board supervise by UNILAG. It is also the same with IJMB but the difference is just the supervisors.  It is an A'level program that usually last for nine to ten month, after this,  you will sit for an examination.  If successful,  you can use the result to apply with a DE form and also, the result does not expire unlike JAMB that expires after one year.  It also have courses and universities you can pick from because it is not for all courses and universities. If you want to see courses and universities that accept JUPEB,  then visit their official site here.  In the official site,  you will see more information on how to apply if you want to apply.

Merits and Demerits of JUPEB

Like JAMB and IJMB,  JUPEB also have it own merits and demerits, they are,  As for the merits;

  • Its result does not expire.
  • You gain admission into 200level without passing through 100level.
  • It is just a 10 months program.

As for the demerits;

  • It is expensive to apply.
  • Not all schools accept JUPEB.

CONCLUSION

JAMB 2018-Secrets behind every admission success

Alot of students are preparing for the unexpected POST JAMB exam which was said to have been scrapped. The bitter truth is that not all the students will be admitted into the university or polytechnics.

But there are things you need to know that will give you more advantages over other competitors.  Yeah,  they are your competitors even your best friend is.

  For instance,  let me take a particular product as an example like indomie,  you know that indomie also have competitors in which you know that Dangote is part of.  But have you ever thought of how indomie has been on top despite the strong competition,  it is simple, they do more of advertisement, promo and other thing to keep their product relevant.  That is the advantage i am talking about.  I am sorry i deviated a bit but i am sure that it really help you understand what i was saying.

POST OUTLINES

1. Why students do not gain admission.
2. Why students gain admission.

Looking at the two outlines above,  you will notice that they are opposite to each other. You need to know why people gain admission once and others have been trying for the past three years without gaining admission to any higher institutions.  I think i am the right person to discus this topic to you because i have passed through this before,  i mean i have been in a stage of not gaining admission and also in a stage of gaining admission. You see that i am the right person for this article/topic.

WHY PEOPLE DO NOT GAIN ADMISSION

I saw a particular news about a student who got admitted into OAU (Obafemi Awolowo University). According to the news,  this student have been applying for OAU for the past six consecutive years but all to no avail. This news broke out last year when he got admitted at last into OAU,  which mean that he has been applying for OAU since 2010.  Although I applaud him for his persistence but on the other hand, I saw that as a waste of time. If you don't know what a whole six years can do, i will tell you now;

1. Within six years,  you will study Pharmacy and complete your NYSC service (without strikes).
2. Within six years,  you will complete your masters program and also complete your phD program.
3. Within six years,  a baby would have started walking and speaking english fluently.
4. Within six year, a student will finish his Secondary School Education.

Let me stop there, i hope you now see my point. What i am trying to pass across to you is that,  if you are trying a particular method and it is not working,  please and please, you need to try something new.

Another reason is that student don't  get the right information that will aid their admisson success. What kind of information do you think i am talking about,  i am talking information like this one you are reading and other post of this blog. So if you are reading this post,  then definitely you really want to pass your exams and get admitted. As they say, information is power, also if you don't get informed,you will be deformed.

Another possible reason is that students don't  get prepared for the required exams like JAMB and POST UME exam. This exams are what you need for any admission into Nigerian universities apart from other admission program like JUPEB,  IJMB etc. You should take your preparation for this exams very serious by reading your books according to the syllabus provided by JAMB, answering past JAMB questions  and also attending tutorials.  I have posted how to pass both JAMB and POST JAMB on my blog,  you can read them after reading this post/article.

Another possible reason is that students usually do mistakes when applying for the JAMB/POST UME.  What do i mean by mistakes?  Mistakes like spelling your name wrongly,  giving the wrong data(s) about yourself etc.  This mistakes have a way of affecting one's admission.
Another possible reason is that most students are below the age requirement of the school. Most schools need students that are sixteen years old and above, though some schools still admit students below sixteen years old but to be on the safe side,  it is better you are sixteen and above.

WHY STUDENTS GAIN ADMISSION

Yeah,  this one is very important to discuss. Have you ever come to think of it that why did Mr A got admitted despite have average mark in JAMB/ POST UME.  Please i don't want you to think that connection is everything, No, students still gain admission without any connection.

Take notice of those students that got admitted despite having average mark in JAMB,  you will notice that they applied for a lower course which have low competition in the particular university, that is why i will always advise any one that if you put in for medicine and surgery, and you didn't get up to expectation, change your course to a lower one like biochemistry, microbiology etc.  The truth is that you can cross from those course to medicine and surgery later in the future.

Read Also: How to pass POST UME with ease

Take notice of those students that gain admission,  you will notice that they started their preparation very early.  Imagine someone preparing to write JAMB exam and he/she started reading a week before the exam,  don't let us decieve ourselves,  such person won't pass the exam. Preparing early is the key to pass JAMB.  When i was planning to sit for JAMB exam,i started my preparation three months before the date of the exam.  Now tell the reason why i won't have gotten above 300 in JAMB.
Take notice on students that got admitted,  you will notice that they made no error in their JAMB application and they meet up with the age requirement of the school.

Read Also: Factors that determines cut-off mark

I want to use this medium to advise all students seeking admission into the higher institution,  if you see that JAMB is not going through,  you can try another method like IJMB, JUPEB,  Pre-degree,  Diploma etc.  Though they may  be cost but it is better than wasting your time at home for more than four years.

And for those who are reading this article/post and you are yet preparing for JAMB exam,  i will advise you not to see JAMB as a big thing,  JAMB is simple but the fear people have for JAMB exam has been making them fail to get admitted into the university.

As for those students that say that it is only university they want to attend, despite been admitted by polytechnics,  i will advise you not to reject  polytechnic admission offer,  you can be attending polytechnic and be preparing for the upcoming JAMB exam.

If you find this post/article helpful and useful,  you can kindly do me a favour by sharing this post to your friends on social media by using the share icon below this post.

Please, don't just read and go,  drop comment concerning what you think about this topic, telling us your take on this topic.  You can also check other topics in this blog,  they will be of help to you.

Remember,  every admission success has a secret,  this might one of them.

Thanks.

JAMB 2016-How to calculate UNILAG aggregate score

University of Lagos is one the prestigious federal universities we have in Nigeria because over the years, they have produce excellent set of graduates even a graduate with 5.0 CGPA.  As a result of this, UNILAG usually find a way of selecting the best candidate out the crowd by conducting POST UME examination for students.

In this post,  i will explain how UNILAG calculate it aggregate from your JAMB score and POST UME score. If you are reading this post, it is either you are preparing for the POST UME or you are planning on choosing UNILAG as your first choice university, anyways this information is for you. I will also used some illustrations to explain my point if you don't mind.

SUBJECT COMBINATION FOR UNILAG POST UME EXAM

First and foremost,  you need to know your subject combination for the POST UME examination. As for the science students, the POST UME exam with contain a bit of  mathematics, English language and general paper < current affairs>, likewise the commercial students and art students.

HOW TO CALCULATE UNILAG AGGREGATE SCORE

Now let us go into the main aim of this topic; how to calculate your aggregate point using your JAMB score and POST UME score.
As for your JAMB score, it will be divided by 8 which will be equals to 50%. You don't understand? See illustration below;
Assuming Mr A had 240 in JAMB, then his aggregate will be;

240/8= 30%

This means that Mr A got 30% out of 50% as his JAMB aggregate.  Now let us go the POST UME.
As the POST UME aggregate,  you know that it is 40 questions that will be set,  then each question carries 1.25 marks. Let me show you  illustration;

Assuming Mr A got 30 marks out of the 40 questions, then it means that;
30 x 1.25= 37.5
This means that Mr A got 37.5 marks out of 50 marks.

Now the total aggregate will be;

JAMB aggregate + POST UME aggregate = Total aggregate

This means that Mr A total aggregate is
30 + 37.5= 67.5%
This means that Mr A have a total of 67.5% mark out of 100%

WHAT NEXT?

The next thing is that you should wait for the cut off mark but while waiting for the cut off mark, read the factors that determines cut-off mark. Also you should pray, because alot of people choose UNILAG as their first choice, this means that you are competing with numerous candidates.

Here in Nigeria, there are some courses that you will need to study to make it real big in term of financial life. These courses has a way of transforming ones financial life.  Take note that being lucrative does not mean that it is easy to get employed.  Being lucrative implies that it fetches a lot of money to your bank account.

POST OUTLINES

1. Pharmacy

2. Medicine and surgery

3. Dentistry and dental surgery

4. Business administration

5. Engineering

6. Economics

7. Law

8. ICT

9. Nursing

10. Medical laboratory science

Below are the courses that are lucrative in Nigeria;

1. PHARMACY

Let us to be sincere,  people who study this course has the advantage of making it big here in Nigeria. Pharmacy is all about the study of dr.ugs and how it works in the body. It is either you work as a community pharmacist (these are the pharmacist you see in your community and also take not that chemist and pharmacist are not the same)  or you can work as an hospital pharmacist (these are pharmacist you see in the hospital)  or you can work as an industrial pharmacist (these are the pharmacist that produce the dr.ug we use).  If you want to make it real big in the line of pharmacy, i will advise you to go for industrial or community pharmacy because they have more advantage of making more money than the hospital pharmacy.

2. MEDICINE & SURGERY

Even though the doctors are not paid as high as they want, they have more advantage of making more money in Nigeria. They can also decide to work overseas or they can decide to specialize in a particular field, thereby increasing their pay/salary. Some might even decide to become a lecturer. People who study these courses has a lot of chances of making it big financially as they don't bother to seek for employment, most of them are employed immediately after school.

3. DENTISTRY & DENTAL SURGERY

Dentistry and dental surgery is all about the study of the oral cavity. I know some people might disagree that dentistry does not worth being third on the list but the truth is that both doctors and dentists are paid on same salary scale (CONHESS).  They also have the opportunity to specialise like the counterpart (doctors)  in a particular field.  They also have the opportunity to work in the oversea after they sit for licensing exam.  In USA, dentists are the highest paid profession, they are more paid than doctors but here in Nigeria, they are paid same salary.

4. BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

As the word implies, it is all about business and we all know that business is running the world. The richest black man in the world,  Aliko Dangote is a businessman. People who study this course have the opportunity to stand alone (become an entrepreneur)  and run their business venture. Most times,  they tend to be successful in the business  because they know more about business and how it works.

5. ENGINEERING

All forms of engineering is lucrative if they have the opportunity to work in a big engineering firm. All forms of engineering like petrochemical, mechanical, civil, electrical and so on. People who study these courses really make it big financially most especially those who study petrochemical engineering. These people are paid well in Nigeria.  The disadvantage they have is that they can hardly stand alone at the early stage of their career.

6. ECONOMICS

One thing i like this course is that people who study it can work almost everywhere, i mean that you can find them in almost all sectors like the educational sector, business sector, banking sector and so on. Also they are paid well and they also have the opportunity to stand alone as an entrepreneur.

7. LAW

Though there are argument that law is no longer lucrative but it remain number 7 on the list. People who study  law to become lawyer know how they make their money because they look comfortable. They also further to become barristers,  SAN (Senior Advocate of Nigeria) and so on.

8. ICT

For those who don't know the full meaning of ICT, it means Information and Communication Technology and when i say ICT,  i mean people who study any course related to computer, website designing etc.  I refer them to as computer gurus or tech gurus. We all know that it is technology making things happen in this world. These guys are really paid well and they can become a boss of their own (an entrepreneur).

9. NURSING

I have reasons why nursing is the number 9 on my list.  The reason is that they easily get job in the hospital due to the high need of nurses in the hospital. Also they can proceed to become "matron". In a nut shell,  they are well paid and they easily get job compared to other health related courses.

10. MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE

Nowadays, hospitals prefer to employ med lab scientists to biochemist or microbiologist,  the reason is that med lab science has covered both microbiology and biochemistry.  Therefore, they easily get employed and they are paid well.

Take note that this list is not official, everything up there is based on my opinion but if you feel the list is incomplete or wrong,  you can let us know your opinion.

JAMB 2018-How to pass POST UME with ease

POST UME is back, yeah it is better you believe that POST UME is back.  I have two news for you, one good news and one bad news.

 The good news is that POST UME is back, the era of screening point is gone. The screening point have made some people to register for "special center" in order to have 9 A1 in WAEC and they also paid for JAMB runs just because they want to study big courses like medicine and surgery, law, pharmacy and so on. Now that POST UME has been introduced, the admission slot will be given to those that really prepared for the exam and passed on merit.

The bad news is that the news was announced late as schools will soon start selling their respective POST UME form. I understand the fact that most students were not preparing for this exam, most of the students are busy learning skills, but now that there is POST UME then i will advise you to start dusting the book that have been abandoned immediately after the conclusion of JAMB exam and start reading like there is no tomorrow because you have a very short time.

Though some schools might still want to conduct screening but I am very certain that schools like UNIBEN, UNILAG, UI, OAU, FUNAAB,FUTA will conduct POST UME exam.

Now let's us go into the main aim of this post; how to pass POST JAMB easily. There are alot of ways to pass POST JAMB but have it in mind that the method that works for me might not work for you and vice versa. Although your method of passing POST JAMB might be different but there is one thing that will surely be similar, which is "Reading of books".

Read Also: How to pass JAMB exam easily

POST OUTLINES

1. Practice past questions.
2. Where can i get the past questions.
3. Set a limit for yourself.
4. Attend tutorials.
5. Put God first.
6. Get to the exam hall early.

PRACTICE PAST QUESTIONS
The truth is that universities are very lazy to set new questions for the exam therefore they recycle previous year's questions. Make sure you get the past questions for your school and study the past questions well.

WHERE CAN I GET THE PAST QUESTIONS

*You can get it online :Google has made everything easy for us,just type the school name with past questions, for example type UNILAG Past Questions on Google. It will surely bring out what you need either in PDF format or you will see it on the website. If you choose UI as your preferred school, then i have some past questions for only science students on this blog. You can check it out here.

*Get it in the bookstore : You can get the hard-copy in the bookstore if you don't like the soft copy. Most times, some bookstores might not have the past questions, so i will advise you to go to the bookstore inside the school campus (the school you applied in JAMB).

Read Also: Factors that determines cut-off mark

SET A LIMIT FOR YOURSELF
Yeah, you need to set a limit in terms of what you need to score in POST JAMB exam. For instance, the POST UME exam is over 400marks, then you should set a limit above average which is 200 and above. This will help you work towards your goal (that's if you are really sincere with your goal). You should have it in mind that you are competing with numerous candidates for limited admission slot, so you should make your limit a little bit higher.

ATTEND TUTORIALS
You might not really need this but i will advise an average student that want to get admitted this year to attend tutorials for the short period of time you have left. The benefit you will gain from attending tutorials is that it will help you check yourself to know if you are really ready and also it will revive your memory about what you have always known.

PUT GOD FIRST

Have it in mind to always put God first in whatever you do, mistakes might occur when they are marking the exam paper but put God first and always pray as you read.

GET TO THE EXAM HALL EARLY

Getting to the exam hall early will help you to relax your mind and also help you to remember all what you have read. I know you won't want a situation where the exam would have began before you reach the exam hall. I expect you to use this time to check if all the materials you need for the exam is intact.
